It is requested that all children under the age of five stay in our nursery

Compared with Christ, in all beside
No comeliness I see
The one thing needful, dearest Lord
Is to be one with Thee.

The sense of Thy expiring love
Into my soul convey
Thyself bestow; for Thee alone
I absolutely pray.

Less Than Thyself will not suffice
My comfort to restore
More than Thyself I cannot crave
And Thou canst give no more.

Loved of my God, for Him again
With love intense I burn
Chosen of Thee e’re time began
I choose Thee in return.

Whate’re consists not with Thy love
Oh teach me to resign
I’m rich to all the intents of bliss
It Thou, O God, art mine.

“There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.”   -Proverbs 13:7

If the Bible teaches it the short answer is yes.  And the Bible does teach election and that cannot be denied.  Election is a declaration of the character of God.  Election speaks of His sovereignty, independence, immutability, eternality, and love just to name a few of His attributes.  Election is a declaration of man - dead in sins, unable to be saved apart from election.  Election is a declaration of the intent and success of the cross.  There is no understanding of the cross of Christ without understanding all He died for must be saved.  There is no understanding of the work of the Spirit of God in regeneration apart from seeing He gives life to those God elected and Christ died for.  It is impossible to believe salvation is all of grace and not preach election.  Election is what the sinner needs to hear.  It states emphatically that we cannot be saved by our works.   It is only when we see we cannot be saved by our works that we will call for mercy.  Must election be preached? Absolutely!  It is impossible to preach the Gospel and leave out this holy truth.

As long as my sin is not all my fault I will not ask for mercy.  When we are seeking to justify ourselves, we put the blame of our sin on God or men or circumstances (whatever we are blaming we are ultimately blaming God) when we have nobody to blame but ourselves.  When our sin is all of our fault, when we take complete responsibility for our sin, it is only then that we will cry for mercy!  If the sin is not our fault, we are looing for merit, not for mercy!

The Biblical word for witness is where we get the word martyr from – one who bears witness by his death.  What we are bearing witness to is so important to us that we are willing to die for it.  When we bear witness to salvation being all of grace, we do so because we believe it is what the Word of God plainly declares.  But if it does not go deeper than that, it is not truly bearing witness.  I am completely dependent on salvation being all of grace.  If it is not, I know I will not be saved.  Therefore, by God’s grace, I am willing to die for this Truth.  Modify it ever so slightly, and you take away my hope!  We testify when we believe it is what God’s Word says and it is so valuable to us that we are willing to die for it.  Nothing less than that is being a witness.

Not everybody believes this.  To some men He is nothing.  Others view Him as important.  Still others view Him as very important.  But to some, He is all.  He is all in all things.  He is all in their salvation, He is all in their faith. He is all in their rejoicing and confidence.  For whom and to whom is Christ all?  He is all for all and to all who really believe Him to be all!  I truly believe Him to be all in my salvation, and have hope in nothing else.

I have said, “Only before an Almighty, Sovereign Lord will a person sincerely bow down and worship; only by the will and work of an Almighty Sovereign Lord can a person be assured of an eternal salvation  and only in the care of a loving, Sovereign Father will a person find comfort in the trials of life.”  For the least things in our lives are ruled and ordered by our Lord as well as the greatest!  Do you believe this?  God’s reign and rule include the simple and inconsiderable things.  He clothes the lilies of the field, He feeds the fowl of the air, nor a sparrow falls without Him, and the very hairs of your head are numbered. “Shall He not clothe, feed, and care for His children?”  I can rest and rejoice when One so great and mighty loves me and has determined “That all things shall work together for my eternal good.”               - Henry Mahan

If two people hold two different views as to how God saves sinner, but those views do not exclude the salvation of the differing view, there will be no conflict.  I’m o.k.  You’re o.k.  But if the way I hold excludes other way, this is where the trouble begins. “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no man cometh to the Father but by Me” (John 14:6)… He is not a way but the way - the way that excludes all other ways.

To receive Christ as our Lord is to bow to HIS WILL.  To walk with Christ is to walk with Him, “Who worketh all things after the counsel of HIS OWN WILL.”  To plan my day is to say, “If the Lord WILL, we shall do this.”  To pray is to ask anything according to HIS WILL.                                                                          - Henry Mahan
