HYMN OF THE DAY
Look upon me, Lord, I pray Thee
Let Thy spirit dwell in mine
Thou hast sought me, Thou hast bought me
Take my heart and make it Thine.
Naught I ask for, naught I strive for
But Thy grace so rich and free
This Thou givest by the Saviour
He hath all things who hath Thee.
Precious is the Name of Jesus
Who can half its worth unfold
Far beyond angelic praises
Sweetly sung to harps of gold.
Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah
Pilgrim through this barren land
I am weak, but Thou art mighty
Hold me with Thy powerful hand.
(Tune: Jesus Calls Us” p. 374)
We will observe the Lord’s Table this evening.
Bible School will be June 13 – 15. Helpers are needed and there is a sign-up sheet in foyer.

“Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.” - Proverbs 15:22
Saving faith is a Person. It is not giving assent to the truthfulness of Scriptural doctrines. Recently, I spoke with a man who believed certain doctrines of the Scripture, like election or particular redemption, did not need to be preached for the Gospel to be preached. The problem is why would you withhold those glorious Truths? If you preach Christ as He is, these doctrines will be obvious. What we believe is determined by Who we believe! We preach the sovereign, omnipotent God Man. Everything we believe is predicated on who He is.
TAKE HEED WHAT AND HOW YOU HEAR
“Take heed what ye hear” – Mark 4:24
“Take heed how ye hear” – Luke 8:18
Hearing is a critical part of the Gospel scheme. “How shall they believe on Him whom they have not heard.” “Faith cometh by hearing.” Why the Gospel itself is called in Galatians 3:2-5, “The hearing of faith.” Is it any wonder the Saviour said, “Take heed what ye hear” and “Take heed how ye hear”? What has to do with the content of that which is heard. How has to do with manner of hearing.
I will be what I hear. If I hear error, I will be in error. If I hear the Truth, I will believe the Truth, and grow in grace and the knowledge of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. God does not speak apart from the Truth. That is why we should take heed what we hear. I will only benefit by what I hear by the manner in which I hear. That is why I am to take heed how I hear. If I hear with a dull and sleepy ear; if I hear with a critical ear; if I hear without a desire to be fed, I will not benefit!
What a needful two-edged warning. Take heed what you hear and take heed how you hear.
There are five things found in all saved sinners and no man will be saved apart from them: faith, repentance, love, good works, and perseverance. A sinner’s salvation is not dependent on them doing these things. Doing these things is dependent upon God saving them. If these things are absent, God never did a work of grace in the first place!
ELECTION OR ATHEISM – NO MIDDLE GROUND
If you receive the Bible as the word of God, you have no choice; you must believe the doctrine of election. If you believe the Bible, you have to take it all as the Word of God. You cannot say, “I believe what the Bible teaches about heaven, but I just cannot accept the idea of hell.” You cannot say, “I believe in God; but I simply cannot believe in election.” Election is so much a part of Divine Truth, that it cannot be expunged from the book of God without completely destroying the word of God. It is taught in Genesis, in Revelation, and everywhere between. To deny the doctrine of election is to deny the word of God, reject the religion of Jesus Christ, and to engage in the practice of utter atheism; for the denial of election is the denial of the God of election!
Yes, you read that right. I said the denial of election is a denial of God! It is a denial of His sovereignty. It denies that God has the right to do with His own what He will. Those who deny election deny God’s government of the world and of His right to govern. – Copied
THINGS TO CONSIDER
Quotes by C. H. Spurgeon
Every generation needs regeneration.
It is not how much we have,
but how much we enjoy, that makes us happy.
He that deserves nothing should be content with anything.
A lie travels around the world, while Truth is putting on her boots.
Nobody ever outgrows Scripture, the Book
widens and deepens with our years.
Humility is to make a right estimate of one’s self.
If we cannot believe God when circumstances seem to be against us,
we do not believe Him at all.
