Sundays 7:30 am Channel 27 WKYT
It is requested that all children under the age of five stay in our nursery
so there will be no distractions during the preaching of the Gospel.

Compared with Christ, in all beside
No beauty can I see
The one thing needful, dearest Lord
Is to be one with Thee.

The sense of Thy redeeming love
Into my soul convey
Thyself bestow, for Thee alone
My All-in-All, I pray.

Less than Thyself will not suffice
My comfort to restore
More than Thyself I can not crave
And Thou cans’t give no more.

Loved of my God, for Him again
With love intense I’d burn
Chosen of Thee ere time began
I’d choose Thee in return.

(Tune: “According to Thy Gracious Word” p. 192)

We rejoice with Rachel Waesche who will confess Christ in Believer’s Baptism this evening.

“The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.” - Proverbs 28:1

The Biblical word for witness is where we get the word martyr from - one who bears witness by his death. What we are bearing witness to is so important to us that we are willing to die for it. When we bear witness to salvation being all of grace, we do so because we believe it is what the Word of God plainly declares. But if it doesn’t go deeper than that, it is not truly bearing witness. I am completely dependant on salvation being all of grace. If it is not, I know I will not be saved. Therefore, by God’s grace, I am willing to die for this truth. Modify it ever so slightly, and you take away my hope! We testify when we believe it is what God’s Word says and it is so valuable to us that we are willing to die for it. Anything less than that is not being a witness.

Not everybody believes this. To some men He is nothing. Others view Him as important. Still others view Him as very important. But to some, He is all. He is all in all things. He is all in their salvation; He is all in their faith; He is all in their rejoicing and confidence. For whom and to whom is Christ all? He is all for all and to all who really believe Him to be all! I truly believe Him to be all in my salvation, and have hope in nothing else!

So close is the union between Christ and the believer that the word of God declares them to be one. When Christ prayed for His people, He said, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word; that they all may be one; as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be one in us.” (John 17:20-21)
Since I am one with Christ, that means what He is, I am. Where He is, I am. What He did, I did! He is the head, we are the body, and the Head cannot be separated from the body! That seems too good to be true, but it is true in fact. The Word of God declares it to be so.

When the Lord said concerning Peter’s confession of Christ, “The gates of hell shall not prevail against it”, this reminds us that the church is not on the defense. We are on the offense. The very gates of hell cannot keep Christ out. He will save all He intends to save. This confession of the person and work of Christ is, “The power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.” Remember, we are not on the defense! We are on the offense, and we have an offense that will break down the very gates of hell.

The preaching of Christ Jesus and Him crucified is hated by this religious world. But those who believe, and are saved, love it with a perfect love. It is our only hope, our Salvation. If we compromise on this to please the people of our day, we compromise the Gospel, and make the death of our Lord Jesus Christ of none effect. We have no Salvation. We have no hope. We will stand before a thrice Holy God with a hope only in what we can do to satisfy His justice. We will be obligated to pay our sin debt with the works of the flesh, while the Scriptures declare that, “By the works of the flesh shall no man be justified in His sight.” What hope is there in this? None whatsoever. – Unknown

I have said, “Only before an Almighty, Sovereign Lord will a person sincerely bow down and worship; only by the will and work of an Almighty Sovereign Lord can a person be assured of an eternal salvation; and only in the care of a loving, Sovereign Father will a person find comfort in the trials of life.” For the least things in our lives are ruled and ordered by our Lord as well as the greatest! Do you believe this? God’s reign and rule include the simple and inconsiderable things. He clothes the lilies of the field, He feeds the fowl of the air, not a sparrow falls without Him, and the very hairs of your head are numbered. “Shall He not clothe, feed, and care for His children?” I can rest and rejoice when One so great and mighty loves me and has determined “that all things shall work together for my eternal good.”
