It is requested that all children under the age of five stay in our nursery
so there will be no distractions during the preaching of the Gospel.
HYMN OF THE DAY
‘Tis not that I did choose Thee
For, Lord, that could not be
This heart would still refuse Thee
Hadst Thou not chosen me
Thou from the sin that stained me
Hast cleansed and set me free
Of old Thou hast ordained me
That I should live to Thee.
Your love had no beginning
No cause in me was found
That You should choose to save me
A sinner strongly bound
But grace not earned or sought for
Was purposed for my soul
For me, salvation wrought; for
Christ paid the dreadful toll.
“Twas sovereign mercy called me
And taught my opening mind
The world had else enthralled me
To heavn’ly glories blind
My heart owns none before Thee
For Thy rich grace I thirst
This knowing if I loved Thee
Thou must have loved me first.

“The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.” - Proverbs 15:14
“All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution”
- II Timothy 3:12
This is certainly the desire of every believer. Will has to do with heartfelt desire. Godly means pious and devout. We want to live a life devoted to our Lord. Why will those who live godly in Christ Jesus suffer persecution? Because a part of living godly in Christ Jesus is confessing Him before men. The natural man will hate what we have to say regarding how God saves sinners. They hate the Christ we preach to the point of persecuting those who confess Him. If I live godly in Christ Jesus I am promised persecution. If I am not persecuted for Christ’s sake, no one hears the Gospel I believe because I never tell them. Oh for grace to live godly in Christ Jesus in such a way that I am persecuted for Christ’s sake. This is what it is to deny self, take up our cross, and follow Him.
The wise man said, “Where no counsel is the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety” (Prov. 11:14) and “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counselors they are established” (Prov. 15:22). Some people seek advice from a multitude of counselors until they find the advice they want to hear. This is not what these Proverbs mean! When you are seeking counsel, it is safe counsel when all of the counselors give you the same advice. Men of spiritual understanding will all be on the same page.
The whole scheme of works salvation is totally dependant upon man and looks inward for all hope, happiness, help, and holiness. Making man the principle object of worship, preeminence and glory. But, the whole scheme of God’s salvation is dependent upon Jesus Christ, the appointed Mediator and Substitute for sinners. This scheme of salvation looks Godward for all hope, happiness, help, and holiness -making Jesus Christ the principle object of all worship, preeminence and glory. “God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ.” The grand design of God’s salvation is the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 17:4-5).

It is hard to say which is worst – the atheist who says, “There is no God” or the religionist who maintains that God cannot do as He pleases.

KNOWING, BRETHREN, YOUR ELECTION OF GOD
I Thessalonians 1:4
Your ELECTION is known by your CALLING! “You hath He quickened who were dead…” Have you been quickened, made alive to the things of God in Christ? Do you have an interest in the Gospel of God’s grace and mercy to sinners? “The Holy Spirit will convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.” Have you been convinced of your sin or unbelief? Have you been convinced that you have no righteousness and need Christ’s righteousness? Have you been convinced that there is no judgment only to those in Christ? If God has been pleased to do these things FOR you and IN you, then you are elected! “Our Gospel came to you not in work only but in power.” Is the Gospel of Jesus Christ only facts and history to you, or has that Gospel entered your heart and brought you to SEEK a saving interest in Christ? “It is given unto you not only to believe on Him but to suffer for His sake.” Do you believe on Him? Do you really believe that Jesus Christ is your wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption and that He, of God, is made unto you all you need? “We love Him because He first loved us.” Do you love Christ the Lord? “No man can call Jesus Lord but by the Holy Spirit.” Is Christ your Lord? Have you truly bowed to Him in your heart of hearts? “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Do you really love the brethren? There is no problem here. If we are God’s elect, there are evidences enough, so “Give diligence to make you CALLING sure!” - Pastor Henry Mahan
Before we can worship God in peace of conscience and liberty of heart, we must know, upon authority of God’s Word and by the power of God’s Spirit, that the entire question of sin has been forever settled by the blood of a divine sin offering. All of God’s claims and all our necessities as ruined, guilty sinners have been forever answered. This gives us peace; and in the enjoyment of that peace, we worship God. We have a perfect Sacrifice and a perfect conscience. – Scott Richardson
Christ is the issue, isn’t He? I find it revealing that the point of Calvinistic theology which is most controverted is limited atonement – the one point of the five that specifically deals with Christ. No matter what the controversy, it will eventually get back to this point: Is the sacrifice of Jesus Christ enough to redeem the sinner? Christ is never enough in the mind of the unbeliever. But Christ is enough to anyone who has nothing else!
