Sundays 7:30 am Channel 27 WKYT
It is requested that all children under the age of five stay in our nursery
so there will be no distractions during the preaching of the Gospel

I bless the Christ of God, I rest on love divine
And with unfaltering lip and heart, I call the Saviour mine
His cross dispels each doubt, I bury in His tomb
Each thought of unbelief and fear
Each lingering shade of gloom.

I praise the God of peace, I trust His truth and might
He calls me His, I call Him mine, My God, my Joy, my Light
In Him is only good, in me is only ill
My ill but draws His goodness forth
And me He loveth still.

‘Tis He Who saveth me, and freely pardon gives
I love because He loveth me, I live because He lives
My life with Him is hid, my death has passed away
My clouds have melted into light
My midnight into day.

(Tune: “This is My Father’s World” p. 39)

Thank you so much to everyone who gave of their time and efforts to help in Bible School – those who taught, lead the music, helped with the food and crafts and games all made the week an enjoyable one. May the Lord be pleased to reveal Himself to our children. We will plan to hold all future VBS on the third week in June. If you would like to mark your calendar, the dates for 2013 are June 18-20.

All ladies are invited to a Bridal Shower Brunch for Amy Morgan Saturday July 14th at 10:30am. Please sign up in the foyer if you plan to attend.

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.” - Proverbs 12:15

The gift of God, the Lord Jesus and the salvation that is in Him, is the one gift that is absolutely, unconditionally free. This is true because of the Giver. He has no needs and does not give His gift in hope of a return. The gift is priceless and of infinite preciousness, and to try to pay Him for it in some way would be an insult! It must be free to us because we have nothing to pay anyway. We are bankrupt by way of merit. There are three things the freeness of the gift of God secures. (1) It completely excludes boasting. We earned nothing. We have freely been given all. (2) It forbids despair. If His gift is free and requires nothing from me, there is no reason for me to despair of the great God giving me His free gift. (3) It secures gratitude. How thankful we are for the freeness of the grace that is in Christ Jesus. I realize the term free grace is redundant. If it is grace it must be free. But I love the way it sounds. Free grace. That is the grace for me!

Donna Daniel used this theme in Vacation Bible School. When she told me about her lesson it was such a blessing to me, I wanted you to hear. The three T’s of friendship are Time, Trial, and Truth. A friendship that does not endure time is not a true friendship. A friendship that does not continue through trial is not a true friendship. “A friend loveth at all times.” If I throw my friend under the bus during trial or hard times, I am not being a true friend. In a true friendship, there is an agreement with regard to the Truth of the Gospel. “How can two walk together except they be agreed.” May the Lord make us all like that One who is “The friend who sticketh closer than a brother” and that One who is “the friend of sinners”… a friend that endures the test of time, trial, and truth.

Getting “The cart before the horse” is such a vivid picture of the backwards way of trying to do things. It just simply won’t work. Yet the wisdom of man is always trying in vain to deliver the goods in just that fashion. We’ve been told that the way to build our children’s self esteem is by telling them how wonderful they are (even when they’re bad), making them feel like winners (even when they lose), and always rewarding them (even when they are lazy). The result is that we have raised a generation of self absorbed brats with an entitlement mentality. Truth is, self esteem is the by-product of good decisions, hard work, and showing a genuine interest in others. Teach your children by example, precept, and correction to choose right over wrong, to respect others (especially authority), and to work hard. Then, they will grow up feeling good about themselves. Parenting is hard work. It will keep you on your knees. It’s a battle against the flesh. Many mistakes will be made along the way. But, if we take the easy way out, you can be sure that their Adamic nature will not only turn the cart over, it will kill the horse.
Now all that being true, there is but one thing that really matters in the end. Has the Lord been pleased to save my child? Do they know Christ? Here is where our God given responsibility must not falter. If the Lord is pleased to save our children, He will use the preaching of the Gospel to do it. There is no greater thing we can do for our children than to have them in public worship. May God give us the grace to make this THE priority in our homes. Again, some get the cart before the horse. They wait for the child to want to come. Remember, faith comes by hearing, not hearing by faith. Always have them where they can hear and pray the Lord will give them ears to hear. - Pastor Greg Elmquist

I assume that you are Calvinistic in creed, fundamental in faith, and moral in manners or you would not be identified with this people. But has the grace you profess made you gracious? Has the love of God you claim made you a loving, tender, and kind person? Has the forgiveness of your sins taught you how to forgive? Has your friendships with “That great Friend” taught you how to be a true and loyal friend? Having received the heavenly gifts freely from God’s merciful hand, have you learned to give to others freely and generously? You have studied the person and work of Jesus Christ, but HAVE YOU LEARNED CHRIST? The only true evidence that you or anyone has of the fact that you know Christ and have truly been with Christ, is that you demonstrate in attitude and action the ways and will of Christ. Is this not what Paul is saying in I Corinthians 13? One may have the orthodoxy and knowledge, and gifts of religion; but IF he does not have LOVE, he is NOTHING! Don’t just preach the love of God; demonstrate it! My friends, a contentious, unloving, ungracious person is a stranger to the grace of God; for the grace of God makes men and women gracious and loving in all areas. “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Balaam’s ass spoke the truth, but he was STILL AN ASS! SPEAKING the truth does not necessarily change one; LEARNING THE TRUTH DOES!
